Kidney stones, also known as Renal Calculi, are solid pieces of material form in kidney. Kidney stones usually originate in the kidneys but can also develop anywhere along the urinary tract. The urinary tract involves bladder, ureters, kidneys and urethra. Renal Calculi is considered one of the most painful medical conditions. Kidney stones vary in sizes. The stones of small size sometimes pass on its own into the ureters while the larger kidney stones may get stuck along the urinary tract and can block the flow of urine causing severe pain or bleeding.
Not all kidney stones are made of similar material. Calcium stones, Uric acid stones, Struvite stones, Cystine stones are discrete types of kidney stones. Kidney stones vary in shape and size. These stones may be as small as a grain of sand or as large as a pearl. Some stones are even as big as golf balls. Stones may be smooth or jagged and are usually yellow or brown in colour.
